Many thanks to Chris and Spicy Thai, we got invited back to the restaurant again for another food tasting session for their latest addition to their menu!
So, let's cut the chase and get straight to what matters the most.
FOOD!
Deep Fried Sea Bass with Thai Turmeric Sauce - Seasonal PriceThai Sambal Sea Bass - Seasonal Price
If you're asking me to choose between the two sea bass dishes, I'll definitely go for the thai sambal for that spicy kick! Well, put chili on anything and I'll love it! And also because the sambal chili is a lot less watery compared to the thai turmeric sauce (taste somewhat similar to braised sauce), the deep fried sea bass retained much more of its crispiness as well.
Kaeng Som Cha Om (Spicy Thai style soup with vegetables and fried egg) - $18
Imagine tom yum soup with slightly less sourness, filled with flavourful fried omelette with dill and fresh vegetables. A seemingly humble dish that packs a punch! You really cannot go wrong with fried eggs, yes?
Cold Tofu with Special Thai Seafood Sauce - $15
A very Chinese zichar style of dish, but with a Thai twist. I do love tofu, but I would very much prefer them served hot. But the sauce was yummy though, savoury and flavourful, and complements the soft silken tofu very well.
If only it's warm....
And now for the vegetables....
Stir-Fry Broccoli with Scallops - $20
Stir-Fry Garlic Baby Sweet Potato Leaves - $10
Out of the 3 vegetable dishes, I would probably choose the cabbage as my favourite of the lot while the sweet potato leaves was a little... mehhh.
Not a fan of the distinctive mushy texture of the sweet potato leaves (but that's how it's supposed to be) and they were a little more on the bland side.
Jade Noodles with Meatballs - $12
Consisting of spinach noodles stirfry with meatballs, I know the word 'spinach' and the colour of the noodles is kind of daunting, but this is pretty good! The noodles are cooked to al-dente and the overall taste is savoury and yet, quite light. It would be a decent choice of carbohydrates (in place of white rice) to pair up with other flavourful dishes for a good meal.
Claypot Coconut Tom Yum Soup - $18 (small) / $28 (big)

Love the veggies and the tom yum but will never eat the sea bass. I am allergic to it. It did taste good the first time I had it but I can't eat it anymore.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks pretty darn delicious to me. As I kid I used to think I was Popeye, so I always had a soft spot for spinach and that spinach dish above looks like one that I'd definitely devour!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of the Tom Yum soup and being a vegetarian I have the Veg version of it. That majorly contributes to my knowledge about Thai food but I guess I'd love to eat all the veg versions of Thai dishes. Saying that just looking at the color of the gravies and the texture on the veges of the pictures you've shared.
ReplyDeleteYour review is very well written and looks like your honest opinion!!

The vegetarian options don't look that interesting or appetizing as the sea food. That's sad for me, being a veggie!!
ReplyDeleteThe food you have this time is terrific. I especially like the first two dishes. So, because it is the new year, and you have a year of tasting to do, here's to your staying thin. :) Happy new year, Mia.
ReplyDeleteAh, the images are very inviting despite the fact that like most Indians, I am vegetarian. Most Far East people who I know are majorly fans of bass dishes. Probably, bass must be great to taste and digest. I have heard of tofu, is it also non vegetarian?
ReplyDeletetofu is made entirely from soybeans so it's a vegetarian friendly food! but some places will cook it with meat though.
DeleteAre those authentic Thai food? Or are those a fusion of Thai and Chinese food. Anyway, the deep fried sea bass with turmeric sauce looks mouthwatering. It's good that you started the year with a food tasting.
ReplyDelete- Me-An Clemente
some of these are actually chinese fusion dishes. the restaurant came up with these dishes to suit the local taste. :)
DeleteWow, you made me hungry with this blog post. I like the fried fish with turmeric sauce, though it sounds like weird having a turmeric sauce on a a dried fish, but looks so luscious. I'm not that really a big fan of Thai Food, but with these boat load of foods seems to be very tempting and delectable.
ReplyDeleteFOOD, FOOD, FOOOOOOD! It's morning and I haven't had breakfast yet! Damn. Everything you took looks delicious, and I'm quite sure your tummy was very happy afterwards. And TOFFUU. Oh my gosh. I need to buy something from a legit Thai resto soon.
ReplyDeleteThe tofu and veggie dishes all look mouth-watering! I love Thai cuisine, we've tried it once and I absolutely enjoyed the experience. I especially love their yummy desserts. Hopefully we can get to try another thai resto nearby soon.
ReplyDeleteI love Thai foods, especially Tom Yum! ;) Those dishes looks so appetizing!! Makes me feel hungry while reading your blog. There are some dishes that are very Chinese though, like the vegetables and the fish. The sea bass dish reminds me of Sweet and Sour fish. Haha
