Bunstruction: Jelly thinks she's a puppy

Previously, I've blogged about Molly's bunstruction to her litterbox and some slight gnawing of my fan's wire. Now I got to say, Molly's was nothing compared to Jelly's bunstruction. Just a couple weeks ago, Jelly chewed through my phone's wire. My LANDLINE phone wires. The thing is we've already bunny-proofed it by covering it in plastic casing, but due to the connection to the plug, about 3cm of the wire gotta be left bare. And that's where Jelly gnawed it through. My dad and mum spent almost half a day getting the new wires, removing the casing, replacing the wires, installing back the casing, and protecting the bare wires by wrapping it in duct tape. The next day, we found Jelly gnawing at it again. So we double, and tripled protect it with MORE duct tape. Now, the phone cable wire (the usual thickness, you should know it) is 1 cm in radius. =.="

And now, I faced this.

 Jelly found my 2 months old rubber wedges and ate it! Like, WHATTTT? I thought only dogs like to chew shoes? Why bunnies do that too? Initially, I thought Jelly was only being her usual curious self and doing random sniffing around my shoes, so I left her alone. But half an hour later, my mum started screeching like a banshee, "Look what Jelly has done!"
I went out of the room and found Jelly already hiding behind the sofa and my mum holding on to my poor shoes. My 2 months old, relatively new jelly wedges.
Jelly ate my jelly wedges, no puns intended.
So a word of advice to fellow bunnymamas & bunnypapas who thinks bunny-proofing is all about wires (like me), start keeping your shoes in covered cabinets now! Keep your shoes safe from your (possible) pup-bunnies!

Mia's Update: Molly and Jelly

If you're only following this blog, and not Molly's Instagram or Mia's Twitter, you probably didn't know that Molly is leaving. Or rather, she has already left by the time I'm writing this blog entry. It's been slightly more than 3 months since Molly came, but we're unable to bond well. She has been living this forever-alone lifestyle, always hiding behind my sofas to escape from my reach. The only time I can lure her near me was when I have food, and even so she rejects my touch. She will either forcefully pull the food out of my hand and retreating into the back of the sofa to eat, or simply abandoning the food to hide. 

After talking to HRSS, we've come to the decision to have Molly returning to them. Because being unable to groom her aside (Molly returned to HRSS today with dracula nails & matted fur on her butt), how am I supposed to bring her to the veterinarian when she falls sick?

And so, I told Molly she'll be going back and arrangements were made for me to visit other human-friendly bunnies housed at HRSS shelter at Mutts & Mittens (11 Pasir Ris Farmway 2). During my time there, I met two human-friendly bunnies. 

There's Odeon the Lionhead Mix. She has really pretty sapphire blue eyes with red pupils. And the more laid back and tamed of the two.

And there's the 6 months old bunny called Jelly. The smaller, more active and more curious of the two.

Both bunnies were more friendly to human touch, allowing to be carried (even though they don't like it) and flipped onto their backs for a grooming session. Even though Odeon is the prettier one, I decided to get Jelly instead, for her constant mischief and curiosity towards her environment attracted me. 

And one week later, the decision was made and new arrangements were made to do an 'exchange' between Molly and Jelly.

 

And here's Molly, still chilling behind the sofa with only her head outside (for security). This photo was taken earlier this afternoon before HRSS came to pick her up at 2:30pm. Farewell, Molly. I hope you'll find a new adopter parents who can handle you well and gives you daily apple treats too! 

 And so, one hour plus after Jacelyn left with Molly, she returned with Jelly! That's the new bunny girl on the new pink litterbox. It's made smaller and lower due to her size and condition, but shortly after we switched back to the old one Molly has been using because my dad keep insisting the pink one is too small. =.="

 And from the time she arrived at 4 plus till just minutes ago, Jelly was on a rampage! She didn't stop running and hopping around, exploring every corner of the house. She even hopped into the kitchen to play with the stack of newspaper, and into my parents' bedroom to chill beneath the bed, and also into my brother's bedroom for a mini tour, all without a care in the world! Places where Molly has never tried to venture into. And when dinner was served, Jelly also did the one-bite-one-run trick, eating one piece of veggie and going for a run around the place before returning to the veggie bowl for a second piece. 

Jelly is really a curious adventurer. 

And I have no idea why, but both bunnies love that particular spot beneath my bed. I had a hard time coaxing Jelly out from underneath my bed when she ran into my room, and failed. In the end I was left with no choice but to carry-drag her out and herd her out of my bedroom. Needless to say, my bedroom will forever be out-of-bounds to her. 

After a while I noticed the 'flying' ball of white fluff was missing and found this amusing sight behind the other bigger sofa. Jelly also found one of her chillax hideout, but she isn't as good as Molly at hiding. 

And just minutes ago, I found her half concussed right here, still washing her face quite diligently. 

How adorable! *rofl*

MollyMia's Update: Random snippets

I've been wanting to share on these two sites for a while, but didn't get the chance to do it. Bascially I'll categorise them as places to go to when you need to kill time or have a few minutes to spare, and at the same time, earn a cup of starbucks coffee in a week or two. :)

First up it shall be iPanel SG. Basically it's a online survey website, which pays you for every survey that you do. Daily logins and posting of 1 opinion per day is also credited for cash.

High chances of fraud? Nope, because here's the proof.

In about 2 weeks time, I managed to check out 10 dollars from my daily logins & opinions, completing NONE of the surveys (yes, you didn't read it wrong, till date I've still completed ZERO surveys because I qualify or none or those I qualify for are quota full... and yet I still get my payment!), and persuading my friends to join in. Next up, updates on Molly. Molly has been shedding rather excessively these days. I reckon it's her heavy shed this time round. It's so bad furballs are flying everywhere, and she has developed this huge balding patch on her back.

and yes, she was grooming herself and happily cleaning her ears when she realised I was videoing her and quickly switched back to wary mode.

Molly's Update: Apples VS Romaine Lettuce

Oh yeah, it's dinner time! My favourite Romaine Lettuce!

Molly Loves Washing Face

 Hello, I'm Molly! And these are the multi-shots Mia has taken while I was washing my face.

I have the good habit of grooming my face and ears after my dinner (veggie meals at night), and Mia likes it a lot when I'm grooming my ears. She likes how one of my ear will flip up when I tilt my head over to reach my other ear. But of course, because I'm very camera-wary, I managed to escape from the clutches of her camera so she couldn't snap any of my pictures while I'm ear-grooming.

 

Just earlier, Mia got angry at me for trying to dig in the rubbish bin. Well, I didn't mean to be dirty or playful, really. But I just couldn't get enough of the small slice of apple that Mia's mama has given me as a treat. It was so sweet and crunchy, simply yummy! So when I saw Mia's mama throwing the small bit of apple skin into the bin, I tried to dig for it. And when Mia saw me reaching my paw into the bin, she got angry and scolded me.

All I wanted was to just have another bite of the yummy apple treat. T.T

Words from Molly: I've learnt to eat mint leaves!

Hello, I'm Molly! As you all know, I've been previously trained only to eat limited kinds of vegetables when I was with my foster mummy. It's been less than a month since I moved into my new permanent home with Mia, and I've learnt to eat a lot more yummy veggies! 

Mia's latest favourite veggie for me are mint leaves! She likes it because I'll make her room smell pepperminty when I chew on those leaves. 

I didn't wanna try it at first, and only chose to eat my usual favourite romaine lettuce. But Mia hand fed me a small bunch and out of curiosity, I tried a teeny weeny bite and found out that it really isn't too bad. 

I've done well, didn't I?

Bunny Problems

Previously I always thought Molly doesn't chew on wires. I was wrong! I didn't bother to check until today, because I never seen her really chewing on the wires. 

And here, one of the biggest hole she has made in the wire to my fan. Because of the location I'm unable to fence it and keep it out of her reach. About 4 holes has been chewed out on the single piece of wire. Thank goodness I've fenced out the wire heaven under my desk since day 1. Now, after covering the holes with yellow duct tape, I've gotten myself a bumblebee wire. ROFL. 

Gotta go search for some wire protectors that can prevent bunnies from chewing through. Any ideas or recommendations please drop me a comment! 

Over the few days I've been seeing furballs rolling about on the ground, or stray pieces of fur flying across the air. So I reckon it's time to catch Molly for another grooming session. But as I'm still unable to carry her (she doesn't allow me and will kick and struggle), HRSS's Jacelyn is really nice to drop by my house to groom Molly. I bet you can hardly spot her fur because it blends into my floor. 

And now there's Molly sulking under my desk after her grooming session. She really hates being carried. T.T

And she doesn't even care that her ear is stuck. Ahahahaha!

Molly says: I WANT HAY!

I noticed that the hay box is empty but I didn't want to add hay yet because I've yet to change the litter box. The hay monster got frustrated and started "eating" hay through the plastic container.

Bunstruction

In case you don't know, bunstruction stands for bunny destruction.

This was what I came home to after work and there's Molly eyeing me warily while she munches on her dinner (chye sim and pang chye.)

But maybe I should cut Molly some slack. I guess the hay monster got frustrated from trying to reach her hay. Yes, she squeezed her whole head in to eat as the hay depletes. The hole is too small for her to jump in.

Molly does not like the camera

If you're wondering about the lack of good shots of Molly (apart from when she's busy eating) and is starting to doubt my phototaking skills, this is why.

Molly does not like the camera, as of now. Or perhaps she's still wary of me.

See Molly chilling at one of her favourite corners. Actually, she was even more chillax before she saw me approaching with my handphone.

As soon as my phone was at eye level, she quickly scrambled to her feet.

And stared at me with her wary pose.

This is the reason why all the cute pictures of Molly are only when she's eating. Ahh, the lure of food!

Words from Mia: Molly's Haybox Woes Continues

As I was complaining about Molly's bad haybox habits just last night, thinking that the 3rd generation haybox will be a good one, I was wrong. I woke up the next morning to one huge mess. Molly has not only jumped into the tray to eat the hay and pooped and peed as she ate, but has also flipped the entire tray over. Pee soaked hay was basically thrown all over the litterbox and a good amount on the floor.

 

And that's how it ended. I decided that Molly has the mentality that as long as there is a box (or anything that's remotely similar) she must jump into it to eat the hay. So I might as well remove it. It's gonna get messy because she'll pick at the hay and mess it up a little, but at least she's not peeing and pooping all over the freshly placed hay, right? I'm really keeping my fingers crossed on this.

 

And that's our hay monster at work. Nom nom nom nom...

 

On a side note, Molly has started eating her watercress! She's still not eating all of them, but she has taken a considerable amount. Well done, Molly!

Words from Mia: Molly's haybox woes

Did I tell you that Molly is a hay monster? She munches on hay almost 24/7, non-stop. One overspilling shoebox worth of hay can only last Molly throughout the night while I sleep, which is actually less than 6 hrs, on a weekday. Yes, poor sleep deprived me. And our mischevious hay monster has given me my first problem. Molly's haybox woes.

This is Molly's first generation haybox, which basically just lasted us one night. I was still wondering how on earth did Molly destroy her haybox the next morning when I found it in this sorry state. She picked at it, perhaps?

And so, I switched it to a plastic basket, thinking that Molly wouldn't be able to destroy it this time round. Yes of course, she couldn't. But my haybox woes still continues. Why? You'll see.

See, this is why! She jumps right into the haybox to munch as the hay depletes. That was how she destroyed the first generation (shoebox) haybox! Even after repeated nudging and "NO!", Molly still continued to munch on hay inside her haybox. And of course, every morning i find a good amount of poop and pee among the last few bits of hay, which could have been added back into the haybox after it's cleaned.

Waste of hay (and money)!

So I've pretty much have got no choice but to change her haybox again. This time round I've chosen a very shallow plastic tray. It still contributes to hay wastage as you can see that Molly will pull more hay out of the box and letting them mix with her own poop and pee, but it's not as bad as having her poop and pee all over the entire basket of hay. Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this!

 

On a side note, I've unknowingly introduced two brand new vegetables to Molly for tonight's dinner. Watercress (which helps when bunny's urine turns cloudy) and Chinese Celery. Got worried when Molly started sulking and ignoring the veggies totally and immediately checked with HRSS to realised that she's not trained to eat either one. I gave up on the idea that she'll eat them eventually when she's too hungry (there's always unlimited hay for the hay monster) and picked out the Chinese Celery and replaced them with her usual Romaine Lettuce. And as I typed, she's currently picking out those Romaine Lettuce to eat while avoiding those Watercress.

What a picky bunny!
