Focus Hairdressing: Oway Flowerfall Head Spa

credits to beautyundercover.sg

Recently I've went back to Focus Hairdressing at Chinatown Point to try out the latest addition to their hair service, Oway Flowerfall Head Spa! (read about my experience HERE on beautycover.sg)
And I liked it so much that I decided to bring my mum over for a treat! And also because my mum's dandruff issue is getting unbearable, so I thought (was hoping) that the head spa would be able to do her scalp some good.

credits to focus hairdressing / Oway

The Oway Head Spa comes in 3 variation:

helichrysum - for sensitive scalp
sage - for oily scalp
thyme - for dry scalp

On top of that, the herbs & clay peeling cleanser that is part of the base step of the head spa, also helps with removal of the very dry (old and flaky) skin on our scalp, which helps with preparing our scalp for better absorption of nutrients.
Turns out, both my mum and I have dry scalp, and apparently the dryness of my mum's scalp manifested as a "dandruff problem", which just got worse and worse as she switched from one anti-dandruff shampoo to another anti-dandruff shampoo. Because all of these anti-dandruff shampoos are meant to target dandruff arising from OILY scalp. And when my mum's problem stems from dryness, those shampoos just made her condition worse!

The head spa starts off with a head-neck-shoulder massage, coupled with aromatherapy (you may get to choose one of the 3 blends according to your liking/needs, and it will be added into your scalp treatment as well) to soothe and invigorate your senses.

And so that's my mum enjoying the massage. HEH!

After the rejuvenating massage, the treatment blend herbs concoction is then applied and massaged into our scalp. I love that it gave a soothing and cooling sensation on our scalp, gives me the feeling that all the ickiness and impurities on my scalp are getting cleansed off (and in fact, they are!).

After leaving the treatment blend on our scalp for about 30 minutes and washing it off, it's on to the final step of the head spa. The flowerfall water!

The flowerfall water (花露水) not only a has smoothing effect for our hair, but also comes with anti-aging properties for both our skin (scalp) and hair.
I didn't get to see the setup previously when I experienced the head spa for myself (for my eyes were covered), so I had absolutely no idea what was going on around me. It's so interesting that they set it up in a funnel over our hair and let it drip down slowly over the course of about 5 to 10 minutes. The slow trickle of the flowerfall water was a little ticklish for me initially though, took me a couple seconds to get used to the sensation.
But I love the effects of the water on my hair! Mt hair felt legit like I've done hair treatment on it after the flowerfall water step was done.

And now, here's the before (left) and after (right) shots of my mum's condition. Not only the flaky skins (dandruff) were gone, but her hair itself also appear shinier and "softer".

And here's a closed up scan of her scalp's condition.

Before: Speckles of flaky skins everywhere and hair roots full of hair product remnants (silicons).

After: TADAA~ So clean!

Focus Hairdressing: Mucota Omega & Free Scena+ Home Treatment

In case you missed my previous hair post, I've gotten some pretty C-Curls while having Mucota Omega rebonding done at Focus Hairdressing (read about my experience HERE)

Loves how this volume rebonding gave... well, volume (duh!) to an otherwise-will-be-very-flat rebonded hair and also added some pretty loose curls at the ends.
But taking care of the curls do need some work (and skills).

But thank goodness I have my #sponsoredbythebf Dyson Supersonic, which comes with a diffuser attachment that made blowing out the curls a breeze.

But of course, as I was seriously lacking in skills, I never managed to get back those pretty, fancy looking curls Ken blew out for me back at the salon. But having some curls in my dead-straight-for-more-than-ten-years hair was definitely a great change and I've been getting compliments on my new hairdo every now and then.

But, oh well, all good things must come to an end.
About 5 to 6 months after getting the curls done, they were pretty much reduced into a tiny flick at the end, which honestly speaking, looked kind of messy in my opinion, for they always choose to flick in all different directions.
But I reckon it was mostly because of my serious lack of skills in blow-drying and eventually also gave up/got too lazy to continue with it (I just left my hair to air dry and didn't even bother to do all the twisty-curly motions).

And so, I decided. Goodbye, curls. It was good while it lasted.

Returned to Focus Hairdressing again, this time to regain the smooth and straight hair via Mucota Omega Oil Therapy again.

Hello again, soft & smooth straight hair. :)

Focus Hairdressing: Back to Black with Oway Hcolor (Special Discount For ALL Readers!)

After getting my c-curls last month with Focus Hairdressing, I returned to visit Ken again to get rid of my yellow hair! Yes, unfortunately, even after chopping of more than half of my locks, I still have some leftover hair that's previously bleached.

See that glorious tuff of shiny orange ends there? I swear the lighting has made them less hay-ish. And yes that's my geeky glasses sitting on the counter right there. HEH!

And I'm glad to be able to try out their new organic and ammonia free hair colour, Hcolor, from OWay.

Compared to other ammonia-free hair colouring system in the market, Hcolor has more colour options available and also comes with a pleasant, sweet-floral fragrance and gives you a reduced likelihood of respiratory and skin irritation, even in the most sensitive of individuals. Hcolor respects the hair fibre and the hair's physiological pH, hence helping our hair to maintain its structure.

And after the going back to dark brown, it's time to give my scalp some attention with Oway scalp treatment.

At Focus, their Oway treatments uses 100% biodynamic (which, I'm told is better than organic), micronised plants to target 3 main scalp issues:

1. Purifying - To treat dandruff and flakes
2. Rebalancing - To regulate excess sebum
3. Soothing - To soothe sensitive scalp

If I didn't read the catalogue wrong, I think Oway originally have another treatment system specially for hair-loss, but Focus do not offer that option as the previous 3 treatments all have anti-hair fall properties.

And it just so happens that I've been experiencing abnormal hair-fall recently after switching to a brand new shampoo/conditioner, and so soothing treatment it shall be!

The treatment has a very strong herbal scent and gave my scalp an icy, tingling sensation.

And now, showing you my before-after pictures...

Obviously the before: look at all those sebum!

After: All traces of sebum wiped out and my scalp felt thoroughly cleansed.

And as I've mentioned earlier, I've been experiencing abnormal hair loss recently due to a change in shampoo/conditioner that doesn't suit me, and this treatment actually did work to reduce my hair fall! I've stopped seeing like, countless strands of hair sticking to my palms when I shampoo/condition my hair these days.
HUGE THUMBS UP!

Lastly, to end off the day, Ken gave me another colour treatment, Milbon Deesse's Aqua Smooth Veil Treatment. This Milbon Deesse's treatment is also a 3-step treatment and is quite similar to Mucota Scena (read my review of it HERE). The treatment creates 3 layers to treat and infuse the hair with moisture instantly, repairing and smoothen our hair from inside out.

However, to be brutally honest, I would have much preferred sticking to Mucota Scena (is it psychological or what?) as I felt that my hair turned out much smoother with Scena as compared to Milbon. The silky effect of the treatment after my regular hair washes, somehow, also lasted longer with Scena, but it might be because my hair wasn't c-curled back then?

Oway Hcolor is now priced at $100 - $150 (for my hair. it was $140) and you only need to top up $60 to get Oway scalp treatment (usual price $90).

And for now, Focus Hairdressing Chinatown will be giving all you lovely readers a special discount of 15% off Oway Hair Colouring service.

All you need to do is to flash my blog page (molly-mia.blogspot.sg) on your mobile phone to enjoy the special discount!

And now, signing off with my #blackhairselfie

Focus Hairdressing: Getting my C-Curls!

Well, I'm terribly sorry about the bad quality pictures. Left my Samsung NX Mini at home and the Samsung Note 4 has thoroughly failed me with her (I insist it's a she, since mine is pink) camera that always give me grainy, blurry pictures.
So, please bear with me.

-credits to beautyundercover.sg-

And anyway, if you still didn't know, Focus Hairdressing has opened another (smaller branch) at Chinatown Point, located at Level 2 right beside Din Tai Fung and above McDonald's. Stationed at this smaller, more easily accessible via MRT (Chinatown station) branch are Ken, Jane and Louis.
Well, frankly speaking I would prefer heading to the Cuppage branch (I'm not very into the Chinatown vibes, somehow) but since Ken has moved over to the Chinatown branch, I decided to visit this branch as well.

And yes, after so much talks of wanting to perm my hair, I finally did it!

YAYY!

Initially I couldn't decide if I wanted C-Curls or S-Curls, and so Ken recommended that I go for C-Curls as it's more manageable for a perm-newbie like me. And yes, as you can see from the photograph, that he has chopped off about 1/3 of my hair as C-Curls wouldn't look as nice when the hair length is too long.

The session started with a quick, 5 minute Olaplex hair reparative treatment, which serves as a form of 'hair insurance' to strengthen my hair. Well, 1/3 of my hair has been snipped off, but part of my (damaged) bleached hair from the past balayage hair dye session still remains at my new hair ends.

And of course, having unusually thick hair always means having an extra pair of hands working on your hair at the salon.
As I've opted for Mucota Omega Therapy (read my previous experience of it HERE) to rebond my curly roots, my day at Focus started out pretty much the same as all my previous Mucota rebonding sessions with them (read my Mucota Opera review HERE).

Until the curlers came in.
It was just a little worrying because the curls seems to be... quite high?

And I was greeted by this glorious ahjumma-curls when the curlers were first removed, which also reminded me of naruto. The Japanese fishcake, not the comic.
Then Ken came back with the flat iron again, to loosen up those tight curls into the way he wanted them to be.

And after another 10 minutes with the 2 different neutralisers (cream for the rebonded part and liquid ones for the curled part)

TADAA~!
(taken 1 day after the salon visit)

As usual, the Mucota Omega Therapy left my hair feeling soft and smooth, with the exception of a specific bunch of the curled ends, which was the bleached part (oh, how long more will it take for me to get rid of you nasty bleached hair?), that felt a distinctively different, less soft and smooth.

And you'll be glad to know that Focus Hairdressing is celebrating their 7th anniversay this October! And to commemorate their 7th year in business, they're having a special promotion for the following Mucota hair services:

Mucota DYNA
Mucota OMEGA Therapy

Visit their FB page HERE to find out more about these October promotion and hurry, because there's only 1 more week left to this awesome month (it's awesome because I'm an October baby).

Mia's Review: Loreal Hair Colouring and Mucota Scena Hair Treatment

Previously, I mentioned about my first experience with the latest Mucota Omega Oil Therapy at Focus Hairdressing and about 3 weeks after getting back frizz-free, shiny and smooth hair, I returned to Focus Hairdressing to get rid of my Golden Lion Tamarin hair.

Due to previous hair damage from bleaching, Ken highly recommended that I do a glossing with a semi-permanent hair colour as they're less damaging to the hair as compared to the usual permanent hair colour. So, Loreal DiaLight it was!
Knowing that I wish to get rid of the yellowish-gold tones of my faded colour, Ken ran through his recommended colour (eg. how ash tones will help neutralise out my yellowness) and shade numbers with me before I finally decided on the colour I wanted.

Saying goodbye to my yellow-gold hair....

They were pretty packed that day and I was tended to by Sito, and then a few other stylists who were free to check on me while Ken got busy with other customers. Even Marcus, the founder of Focus Hairdressing, was in for a haircut when I got there.
Just like Ken, Sito isn't your overly friendly, unusually chatty kind of hair stylist, which went just right with me. The whole session of having the hair colouring cream applied onto my hair was just comfortably silent, so for those who prefer hair stylists who doesn't try too hard to strike up conversations, Sito is the stylist you'll want to look for.

The hair colouring procedure was just like the usual and in about an hour and a half of work, I got rid of my golden yellowish hair and welcomed back my chocolate brownish hair.

And of course, I moved on to my hair treatment for the day, the Mucota Scena hair treatment, which was highly recommended by Ken to further save my well recovering bleach-damaged hair, with its effect lasting up to 1 month.
Well, just to show you that they're really made in Japan.

I apologise for the really bad picture of the products, I gave up on trying to arrange them nicely on the obstructing cloth.
The mucota scena hair treatment also comes in 3 step procedure:
1. Moisture Treatment (Blue bottle)
2. Hair Repair (Blue spray)
3. Protect Cuticle (Pink bottle)

By right, I should have my hair going into the steamer after both step 1 and 2, but in order to protect my new hair colour, hair steaming was skipped for step 1.
And so, after going through all 3 steps of the hair treatment....

Say hello to my brown, soft, smooth and shiny tresses!

I know, the 'balayage' effect from the bleaching is still there, but at least I don't get a random tuff of barbie-blonde hair on the left side of my head.

It's really important that we do a hair treatment after a hair colouring, not just to keep our hair soft and shiny, but also because the effects of the hair treatment done right after hair colouring is the greatest (apparently, the hair absorbs the nutrients better and more easily as our hair cuticles are all 'opened' from the chemical procedure).
And it's just so nice that Focus Hairdressing gives a 20% discount on Mucota Scena Hair Treatment as long as you couple it with a hair colouring service for now, so instead of the usual $120 (flat rate, unless you have abnormally thick and long mane), it will only be $96!

Mia's Review: Mucota Omega Oil Therapy by Focus Hairdressing [Sponsored]

After a couple times being a paying customer of Focus Hairdressing for their Mucota Opera Rebonding (read my past review HERE), I was really glad to be offered a sponsored session of their latest Mucota Omega Oil Therapy!
This sponsorship was like a God-send for me because I was already having some problems with my hair after a bleach and I was already searching up Google for Mucota DYNA treatment, doing some planning to make a trip back down to Focus to save my dying (or pretty dead) hair. I didn't have any qualms accepting this offer for another rebonding session at all despite my hair ends are already pretty fried, albeit I did warn them my hair is cui from a recent bleach just in case they didn't want to sponsor someone with dead hair and possibly ruin their reputation.
Well, Focus has given me soft and smooth rebonded hair like no other before, twice (or thrice). And I willingly paid my money for that, meaning to say I truly trust them.
And this time, it's FREE! YAYYY!

I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that they have undergone a renovation and the place does look much less 'neighbourhood-ish' after the shopfront's makeover.

Omega Oil Therapy is a healing hair treatment that prevents iron damage, provides moisture and leaves a silky shine to the hair. It is specially formulated to help promote shine and softness in our hair.

And now, let the pictures do some in-depth talking....

Was told by Ken, their senior stylist, that the main difference between DYNA and Omega is, apart from the oils they contain (DYNA is all about argan oil), is that Omega is still more of rebonding while DYNA is more of treatment. Hence, for fellow ladies with more stubborn curls in their hair, Omega might be a better choice for you if you want to achieve straighter looking hair.

Initially, when heard that my hair is damaged from bleaching, Ken did mention that they will usually advise to do DYNA for bleached hair but after accessing my hair condition (partially revived from the all the keratin hair mask I've been doing on a daily basis for the week), I was given a choice of either DYNA or Omega, which I opted for the latter due to promises of much straighter looking hair.

One of the main characteristic of Mucota Omega (a difference to Mucota Opera), a set of 3 products that was applied to our hair in 3 phases.

CS+1: A pre-treatment agent with cationic chitosan, medowfoam oil, keratin to help protect our hair from the chemicals and prevent our hair proteins from leaching out.

CS+2: A heat protecting treatment with anionic chitosan, shea butter, castor oil and jojoba seed oil to protect our hair from dryness and heat from the flat iron. The anionic chitosan also forms an ionic complex with the cationic chitosan in CS+1 to firmly protect our hair from the heat.

CS+3: A after-treatment with macadamia nut oil, hydrolysed collagen, fatty acids and latic acid. There's also two types of seaweed extract to give our hair a lustrous and smooth finish, hold moisture and promotes hair growth. The lactic acid also helps to neutralise the alkali from the previous chemical process to keep our hair texture smooth and healthy.

While waiting to wash off the rebonding cream...

Other than an upgrade of shine and softness in our hair, I realised that Omega also gives a slightly shorter waiting time as compared to Opera.

And TADAA~
After Ken's 2.5 hours of hard work on my thicker than average hair. Apart from the obvious straightness and less fried-looking ends, there's also a glowy shine in my hair, which is one of the main selling point of Mucota Omega Oil Therapy. The shine should be even more obvious in unbleached, healthier hair.

And to show you how much this Omega Oil Therapy has helped me, let me show you how my ends looked like before I went to Focus.
Yes, they were fried, no doubt.

And the frizz in my hair was just, explosive. And I started to see a resemblance to this little guy whenever I see myself in the mirror.

Golden Lion Tamarin.

So now, about 1 week after my Mucota Omega Oil Therapy, my hair has developed a slight natural wave in my hair to frame my face (and glasses) nicely just like how my previous Mucota Opera has turned out. My hair remains soft and smooth, and my ends (though not 'on par' with my roots) were no longer extremely dry and scratchy.
