Wellness Wednesday: What's your favourite workout song(s)?

And so I chanced upon Maureen's blog at scoopsofjoy, who did a collaboration with Rina from CuteCoconut on this Wellness Wednesday Linky Party and I thought that it sounded really fun. A scroll down their 14th January prompts got me super hyped up for "What's your favourite workout song(s)?" and so I said to myself: I'M IN! :)

If you didn't know, I'm with True Fitness for almost 1 year now and I've been diligently (well, most of the weeks) attending 3 group-x classes a week, namely, Spinning, Les Mills Body Balance, and Hot Yoga. At times I'll go for some pilates, and Les Mills Body Pump as well, though, very very seldom for Body Pump because it's always full and I'm not motivated enough for the class to hang around on the booking site at 11:59pm 2 days in advance to snatch slots for it.

So here are my favourite songs, I have 3 of them, for 3 of my favourite workout sessions.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Can't Hold Us
This is my favourite song for abs training during Pilates and Body Balance.

I love the "na na na na na...." part of the song, and it fits my spider-man plank section perfectly! There's just something extremely uplifting about that part of the song, such that it made the otherwise painfully difficult spider-man plank (done after almost all other abs moves) much easier to complete.

Ellie Goulding - Burn
Best song for Body Pump (weights training), ever.

It got me so hyped up at the "burn burn burn burn..." part and I always thought to myself, "HOLD ON TO BURN MORE CALORIES!" even when I really wanted to drop the weights and rest. The beats of the song somehow matches up with the lifting/squatting motions very well too.

Train - 50 Ways To Say Goodbye
My favourite song for spinning.

If you're unfamiliar with spinning, it's known RPM at Fitness Fitst and also as ICE now at True Fitness, which stands for Indoor Cycling Experience. It's one of my favourite group-x class at True Fitness, with Ram as my favourite instructor till date.
And if you (somehow) follow Manhunt (or rather, Senior MH) in 2014, you might know him as Finalist #3, Ram Bala. Heh!

This is a good song for a flat road 'sprinting' part of the spinning workout. Usually, I'll just hum along to the catchy song and just let my legs pedal away to the beat, no stopping, no slowing down.

So, here's my favourite songs for 3 of my favourite workouts. What's yours?

Till then,
Mia Foo

  6. I tried spinning once and gave up half way. It's so crazily intensive! The songs did not even get to me as I was struggling to cycle half the time. It was then I realised that's the intermediate class!

  8. I used dance music when I like to perspire heavily. It's a good feeling to exercise through dancing. But outside I prefer to jog with partner without music.

  10. Music is really powerful. I can't imagine how this world would be without music. Before, it was just an expression of our feelings, now that fitness is trending, it becomes a motivation. :)

As we have our preferences, I prefer the more upbeat songs. But the first song is okay with me. Or is it because I'm a fan of Macklemore? :p

  14. I enjoyed your selections of workout songs! Basically any fast-paced songs are good for me to workout with, but since i mostly go for private yoga classes-i just listen to whatever the instructor prepared for us!

  17. I love different types of music for work out sessions, it depends on the type of workout. If it's yoga, I go for relaxing music, if Zumba or other gym workouts, I prefer upbeat music. For martial arts, no music.

  18. I love music its brings life. My regular exercise is Yoga so my workout song is like soft instrumental or ambient music.
