Mia's Review: Meditrina Deep Ocean Mineral Gel [Sponsored]

Thanks to Herine, I got introduced to Meditrina Deep Ocean Mineral Gel (DOM Gel). The DOM gel is a macro mineral and botanical approach to muscle relief by using transdermal delivery system; a method of delivering nutrients to the body through the skin, the largest organ of the body. Through this system, the gel deliver minerals to the muscles as needed by the body to repair our muscles and nerves.

The DOM gel is formulated with the highest concentration of ionized Deep Ocean Minerals (DOM) concentrate to be used as a self-application or massage gel, to relieve muscle aches, cramps and pains. It also helps to maintain proper muscle function and calm overactive nerves. Ingredients such as Butcher's Broom and Centella help to reduce inflammation, water retention, edema and varicose veins while English Marigold reduces muscle spasms. The Ionised DOM Concentrate also helps to reduce symptoms of chronic muscle aches, pains and tension, while Panthenol smooth and hydrates the skin. DOM gel is also made from the mineral rich deep seawater, kept pure and unpolluted being protected at 2200 feet deep in the Pacific Ocean off Hua Lien Coast.

Using it is easy with a pump dispenser. Just dispense a few pump, spread it over your hands and massage into the localised area experiencing tensions or aches. The warming (or cooling) sensation is mild and comes a while later after massaging the gel into the body, and actually leaves a slightly oily and sticky feeling as it is designed to stay on the skin rather than getting absorbed in. This is attributed to the deep ocean minerals when dissolved in water at high concentrations.

I got this product for a while and didn't have a good chance to try it until I kind of overworked myself in pilates classes and ended up with aching arms and legs the next morning. For a muscle relief gel that gives only a slight warming (or cooling) sensation (unlike most others who give you this immediate icy/burning sensation to numb off the ache), it actually alleviates the aches much quicker than those 'quick fix gels' I've tried, which require at least 3 days of applications, taking it only 1 night to significantly reduce my aches.

The fact that it is designed to stay on the skin, leaving a slightly oily film, makes this gel an awesome choice as a massage gel as it doesn't get absorbed quickly into (dehydrated) skin, making it easier to massage without tugging on the skin or using excessively large amount of oil or cream. So other than being a good choice for those with bad backs or chronic pains, who will need frequently diy massages at home, the DOM gel is also a good choice for wellness service providers, as its unique formulation provides excellent results in massages that involve tissue manipulation, such as deep tissue massage, tui na, sports massage, trigger point therapy, shiatsu and reflexology.

Mia's Sponsored Review: bSoul Hydra-Lip

Do you know that some of the lip balms that we are using actually form a synthetic film over the surface of the lips, causing us to think that our lips are properly moisturized? Such ingredients do not work any further than just the surface and may even cause our own body and skin to forget to function by itself!

bSoul Hydra Lip is a certified-natural lip cream product that is rich in natural functional ingredients. It improves moisturisation from the first application and enhances the volume and the definition of the lips with prolong usage.

And thanks to Herine and Meditrina, I got to try out this amazing sounding lip product to experience its efficacy for myself!

If you're still unfamiliar to the brand, bSoul is the first eco-friendly phytoceutical cosmetic line, which exclude the use of parabens, silicones, petrolatum, paraffin, SLES and of course, does no testing on animals.

bSoul skin care is truly certified by ICEA (Environmental and Ethical Certification Institute) and well received in Italy.

One of the main ingredient, Ecocert complex, is rich in Sinalbin, which is the main phyto-nutrient of the mustard sprouts known to increase the capillary blood flow. This gives hydra lip the plumping effect, which enhances the volume, colour and definition of the lip.

 Before

After 1 application

Notice how the patchiness of my lip was removed (via flaking) and the lip wrinkles so much less obvious? And yes, that was taken immediately after 1 application of the lip cream!

I really like how hydra lip gets totally absorbed in as I massage the cream onto my lips, instead of leaving a film on top of my lips like other lip care products out in the market. This means that I can immediately apply on my lip stain without having the problem of the stain 'slipping' off my lips due to the oily sheen left over by my lipbalm.

During my first 2 usages, there was some 'flaking' (production of white particles as I massage the lip cream in), which is an indication of  the removal of dead skin and/or accumulated silicone from other lip products. I reckon my flaking wasn't excessive as I do exfoliate my lips from time to time.
The fact that it gets totally absorbed into my lips also gave me the perception that I'm not ingesting any of the product as I eat and drink throughout the day. Coming to this, I really wonder just how many sticks of lipsticks and lipbalms have I eaten till date. T.T

bSoul Hydra Lip retails for $52 at Meditrina
For online members, every $10 spent accumulate 1 credit point. Every 1 credit point offset $1 off future purchases.

Mia's Sponsored Review: Meditrina Ageless Herbal Cream and Soothing Moxa Essence

So, roughly about 1 month plus ago, I tried out the MTM Therapy at Indulge Skin & Body Lab and was also given a complimentary set of Meditrina Ageless Herbal Cream with Chasteberry Extract and Soothing Moxa Essence to try out. So after emptying out the entire tub of the herbal cream, I feel that it's high time I give my honest comments about it.

First up, the Soothing Moxa Essence, which adopts nanotechnology to allow the ingredients to penetrate into the skin. This product works like a 30 seconds DIY acupuncture session, minus off the pain of needles, to give immediate and quick relief of pain.
Usage is extremely easy too. We just need to drop 1 to 2 drops of the essence onto our palm, press the palm over the area in pain until heating sensation is felt, and quickly remove palm (else the heat may get unbearable) and pat lightly.

In my opinion, this essence basically has delivered what it promised as a pain relief essence, for the alleviation of aches is really pretty quick and significant. However, this product does not serve as a form of medicinal cure for whichever health issues that is causing the symptoms of pain, for the pain relief is temporary and will come back pretty fast if you leave your underlying health issues unchecked.

Next, the Ageless Herbal Cream with Chasteberry Extract, which uses a unique transdermal phyto-nutrient therapy to transport nutrients faster than other delivery systems.
To fully optimise the benefits of this cream, we should apply an adequate amount of cream on the following 6 key areas and massage till absorbed:

1. Lower back
2. Inner arm
3. Breasts
4. Inner thigh
5. Neck
6. Abdomen

In addition, we can also put emphasis on certain areas to target specific problems. For irregularities in monthly cycle, we can emphasize application on our lower back and abdomen. For disturbed sleep, emphasize on neck. And for unexplained weight gain on lower body, emphasize on thighs and gently pound on outer thighs after application.

The cream feel rich and smooth, but doesn't leave your skin greasy after application and absorption. The scent, however, is more of an acquired smell. I wouldn't call this unpleasant at all, but it definitely doesn't smell like those yummy body lotion you pick off the shelves at Victoria Secrets or Sephora. In fact, the smell somehow reminded me of my grandmother. Yes, it's a kind of elderly, herbal scent that is still considered pleasant to my senses.
And of course, over the course of about one month, I apply the cream diligently every night before I sleep, emphasizing on my lower back and abdomen for my recently turned irregular period cycle.

I used to be on a fixed timetable for my period until about 4 cycles back, it started delaying 5 to 7 days per cycle. So by doing simple Maths, you can deduce that after the 4 cycles, I've effectively lost 1 cycle, and that's not good. Not literally about losing 1 period cycle, but the irregularity.
And guess what, after using this cream, my very next period came exactly on the date it was supposed to start!
Miracle or what?!

And of course, I also feel a slight different at my neck (even though it's hardly captured in the photo). I find that the skin of my neck has brightened up and the slight patchiness of uneven skin tone has somehow even out slightly, as seen in the picture on the right. It occurred to me that my neck lines have also lighten ever so lightly, though hardly noticeable.

Mia's Sponsored Review: MTM Therapy at Indulge Skin & Body Lab & Special Deal!

I've always been suffering from stiff shoulders due to long hours at the computer (plus bad sitting posture), and the stiffness will eventually 'move up' my neck and then eventually manifest itself as either my random migraine attack or my yearly cluster headache attack.
So I was really glad when I was given at chance at trying out this TCM related Meridians Tissue Manipulation (MTM) therapy at Indulge Skin & Body Lab.

MTM therapy is a form of remedial massage that uses buffalo horn tools which allow the therapist to go deeper into our muscle tissue to 'untie' the knots within, providing a much more effective relief for chronic pains, muscle stiffness and fibromyalgia. As this massage works directly on our meridians, which are the channels in our body through which our qi flows, this therapy will also help to relieve symptoms that arises from meridian blockage, such as water retention, weight gain and etc.

The areas upon which we can perform MTM therapy on includes:
1. Eye
2. Face
3. Back
4. Buttocks
5. Arms, Chest and Shoulders
6. Tummy
7. Legs

For more information on their individual benefits, visit Meditrina's website HERE

For my case, I was advised to try their back therapy, which helps to alleviate both upper and lower back pains and consequently improve complexion. The therapist, Chira, upon hearing that I suffer from frequent migraines, also went on to perform the treatment on my arms, shoulders, neck and head.

I was ushered into a small and clean treatment room and given disposable shower cap and undies to change into. Chira was also very polite to make sure that I was already lying face down on the bed before she entered the room.
And before I move on with my experience of the therapy, let's see how the buffalo horn tools look like.

A total of 5 different tools were used as shown, with 3 sizes of the horn-shaped tool, 1 small spatula-shaped (rounded plus flat tips, and 1 flat plate with 4 different edge detailing. The flat plate gave a sensation that's closest to 刮痧 (gua sha) while the other 4 tools produced a much deeper, specific pressure. Depending on the area and intensity of the 'knots' encountered, the therapist will switch between the 5 tools to give the best effect.

My therapy started off with the application of this Soothing Moxa Pain Relief Essence on the major meridian points on my back, namely two sides of my neck, shoulder blades, mid/lower back and base of my spine.
If you understand Japanese Kanji or Chinese characters, you'll know that the product name can be loosely translated into palm's acupuncture. Indeed, as explained by Chira, this quick acting pain relief essence adopts nanotechnology to allow the essence of the ingredient to penetrate into the skin to give a 30 seconds DIY acupuncture session to alleviate the pain at targeted area.
Using her palm, Chira pressed the product on my skin until I felt this warming sensation before patting the area lightly to complete the application.
With difference in level of meridian blockages at different areas of my body, I experienced a significant difference in the time taken for the warming sensation to be felt.

After application of the Soothing Moxa Essence, Chira then started the massage with buffalo horns using the Ageless Herbal Cream with Chasteberry extract ($178), winner of the Cozycot Women's Choice Award 2012. Unlike other oil massages, which leaves your skin oily and in need of a shower, this cream gets fully absorbed into your skin in the course of the massage to give you many benefits, such as:
1. Smoothen skin texture and work on skin renewal
2. Promotes blood circulation and reduce appearance of wrinkles
3. Gives a firmer and more curvaceous bust line
4. Promote stronger immune system
5. Improves vitality, stamina and endurance
6. Strong anti-oxidant effects help to increase defence against free radicals
7. Alleviate PMS, menopausal symptoms
8. Supports bone health
9. Increase muscle strength and physical fitness
10. Restore physical and mental energy to optimal levels
11. Speed up recovery from illnesses

And for the buffalo horn massage, it goes with the usual TCM theory of 不通則痛,痛則不通, which means if you have blockages, it's going to hurt. And of course, it hurt a great deal for me, with the worst pain experienced at my left shoulder blade, which explains the usual migraine and cluster headaches on the left side of my head. The knot was so bad Chira could hardly get the horn to move and she had to switch to the flat plate to ease it out first before she could get the horn to work, calling it a 'big project'.
And just like what my usual TCM doctor has been telling me, Chira could easily deduce that I suffer from weak lungs (hence the usual colds and 100-days-coughs) and weak gastric with bloat from all the knots she located in my back muscle tissue. And by constantly easing out these knots to unblock my meridian blockages, it will help to alleviate all my current pesky health issues.

And as preempted by Chira right after the treatment, parts of my arms and back started to bruise up slightly the next day, together with a stinging pain on the skin. But compared to bruising from 刮痧 and cupping, these bruises are way lighter and could be easily overlooked at a glance and goes away on the 3rd day for my case.
But all these in exchange for better health, better complexion, and most importantly no more migraines and the dreaded cluster headaches, why not?

And that's Chira, their best therapist who is fluent in both Mandarin and English.

Are you suffering from chronic pains, sciatica, constipation, indigestion, bloatedness, or even facial issues like dark eye rings and saggy skin?
Give this MTM therapy a try and experience the benefits for yourself!
