The Durian Bakery [Sponsored]

Noticing that Singapore lacked a bakery that specialises in baking delicious, rich durian goods, The Durian Bakery was born in 2020, guided by a passion for durian and a passion for greatness. And their response so far?
Phenomenal.
Rated as one of the 17 best durian cakes in Singapore by bestinsingapore.com, The Durian Bakery is definitely one of the bakeries you ought to check out if you're an avid fan of durian baked goods.

From Durian Black Forest Cakes, to Durian-Oreo Ice Cream Cakes, all of The Durian Bakery innovations are coupled with their very own signature puree, SilkyGold™, which will introduce you to a world of new and rich durian flavours.

And it's a good thing that they sent over these bundles of goodies during my birthday, so the calories shouldn't count, right?

Black Forest Cake made from the freshest finest black cherries and dark chocolate, infused with Mao Shan Wang puree. Made with our signature MSW SilkyGold™ Durian Puree – the creamiest, most delicious durian filling you’ve ever tasted, made of 100% Grade A MSW, blended through a special process to make it extra creamy, and just as tasty as the Durian itself!

Made with moist cherry chocolate chiffon sponge cake, layered with black cherry jam and 100% pure MSW puree, then frosted with dark chocolate charcoal butter cream and topped with Holland black cherries that are dusted with edible 24k gold dust.
Talk about a luxurious birthday cake!
While the chocolate base flavour of the cake complements the durian flavour pretty well, the tangy black cherry jam helps to further boost the durian taste of the MSW puree. A definite must try if you're not just a fan of durian and chocolate, but also appreciate tangy fruits.

Other than the whole cake, there was also a Signature Pastries Taster Bundle ($51.90) that comes with the following yummies.

Savory dark chocolate mousse with fresh Musang king durian pureed and whipped into a thick creamy texture. With every mouth, you could taste the natural bitter-sweetness of our signature SilkyGold™ Durian Puree – the creamiest, most delicious durian filling you’ve ever tasted – topped with the sinfully rich dark chocolate.

With a hazelnut palette feuilletine base, filled with creamy MSW mousse and a 100% molten MSW core (picture taken while it was pretty chilled, hence not very molten) and covered with 100% dark chocolate and dusted with 24k gold dust, this is definitely the durian dessert you'd serve to impress.

While it has been established that durian and chocolate makes a good taste-team, the addition of the feuilletine base added a nice crunch to the overall soft and creamy texture of the mousse cake, hence boosting up the overall mouthfeel of the dessert.

Light airy choux puff pastry filled with a luscious and decadent durian filling thats made using our D24!

Extremely light, soft and airy choux puff pastry that is filled to the brim with creamy D24 durian cream; what's not to love about this?

“Poink-poink!” Our signature mochi with a soft core filled with purely just D24 Durians!

And last, but not least, everybody say MOCHI-MOCHI~~
These cute little chewy bite-sized balls of mochi are filled generously with a soft centre of D24 durian, a definitely must try for all you mochi lovers!

Getting my Cosmo Prime® Air Purifier + 3-in-1 HEPA filter with Liquid Gateway! [Sponsored]

As a Danish proverb goes, fresh air keeps the doctor poor.
And when is a better time to ensure that we're having fresh, clean air at home every single day, than now?

So glad to be able to try out the Cosmo Prime® Air Purifier, which is rated as one of the best 8 air purifier in Singapore for cleaner indoor air by Best In Singapore for 2020.

At a height of barely 50cm and a width/length of around 30cm, the Cosmo Prime® Air Purifier uses trademarked technology and smart design to provide a long-lasting, silent and powerful air purifier.

Equipped with SilentMotor-VX, the Cosmo Air Purifier functions at a noise level of merely 20dB (soft whisper) with a coverage area of up to 80 square-metre. The air purifier uses medical grade H13 HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter that is specially engineered to have pores that are up to 20 times finer than the average HEPA filters, which filters off 99.97% of all airborne particles of up to 0.1 microns, giving us cleaner indoor air.

Not only that, but the air purifier's carbon filter layer is fitted with an anti-microbial agent unqiue to Cosmo, called Pet Guardian™. This feature works in tandem with the activated charcoal to effectively neutralise organic matter that causes foul odours from pets.

Love the sleek and smooth design that fits into literally any home décor theme (or lack thereof). The small and compacted design also allows the gadget to fit easily into tight corners, hence saving up a lot of space in our small BTO flats these days. The negligible noise level of merely 20dB also means that there's no worry of any form of sleep disruption due to unwelcomed noises from the gadget. Our (old) air-conditioner makes a lot more noise than this air purifier!

Even though I've started on online-shopping pretty early in the trend and has been buying literally everything off the internet since the pandemic, I'm still quite skeptical on the security when it comes to direct payment on the e-shop's platform using my credit card. Hence, I'm so glad to know that Cosmo relies on Liquid Gateway, which is rated as one of the 10 best online payment gateways in Singapore, to ensure that their customers' cards information is safe from potential attacks and frauds.
Now I can shop freely with a peace of mind!

Steamboat King: Having your steamboat anytime, anywhere! [sponsored]

Have you ever had a sudden craving for steamboat, but just had to settle for just anything soupy because there's absolutely no time to go grocery shopping and finishing all the steamboat preparation works by the end of the day?

Now, what if I'm telling you, you can get your steamboat lunch/dinner/supper (or even breakfast!) all setup and good to go in just ONE HOUR?

I kid you not. With Steamboat King, you definitely can!

Rated as one of the Best 8 Steamboat Delivery in Singapore by BestInSingapore, Steamboat King provides an impressive service of a FREE 1-hour delivery islandwide, Steamboat King also carries portable accessories such as cookers and pots, making them your one-stop site to get literally everything you'll need to get your steamboat parties started in just ONE hour, ANYWHERE you fancy.

With a team of brilliant chefs with over 30 years of culinary experiences, Steamboat King has put together winning recipes behind each of the 5 broths they're offering: Premium Collagen, Sichuan Mala, Tomato, Kimchi and Pork Tonkotsu

Steamboat Bundle B (3 - 4 pax) - $99 (Usual $129)

For just $99, we can get 4 portions of carbohydrates along with a selection of meat, seafood, vegetables and other frozen/processed food, along with 3 out of the 5 dipping sauces available on their menu. On top of that, there's also watermelon slices as dessert and a 1.5L bottled drink!
You can also choose to get up to two of their complimentary 14cm portable stove sets!

For the broths, I went for kimchi and pork tonkotsu. And because my dad dislike kimchi (always saying it's smelly), we used the portable stove set for the kimchi broth and ended up only using half of the 1L pack (around 500ml?). My mum quite liked the kimchi broth too, and we saved up the broth to make kimchi soup a few days later. YUM!
And now my mum keeps saying she want to buy their ala carte kimchi broth just to cook kimchi soup at home. HAHAHA!

The ingredients were all super fresh and well packed. Who would have thought that a steamboat meal at home can be such a fuss-free, open-and-eat kind of affair?

One thing to note, the portable stove, although ridiculously cute, didn't really work that well. As I've mentioned earlier, we ended up using about only 500ml of the kimchi broth not only because the pot is really tiny, but also because you won't get the broth (and its content) to a boil at all. Not even a simmer.
And as the broth came chilled, we had to heat the cold broth up in a pot over the hob before pouring the boiling broth into the portable stove pot. The broth only barely started simmering when we were nearing the end of our meal and burning out the 2nd pot of fuel.
So if you're planning to hold a steamboat party outdoor, do considering getting a proper portable gas/induction cooker and pot or prepare your own cooker hobs and pots to heat up the broth instead of relying solely on the complimentary 14cm stove sets.

And of course, if you're unwilling to be limited to their fixed choices in their bundle packages, you can always go for ala carte (from broths, to steamboat ingredients, right down to their carbohydrates and dipping sauces) ordering to get your ideal steamboat meal with all your favourite foods and flavours.

BestInSingapore's Shepherd Pie's Delivery [Sponsored]

Sometime last year, I've mentioned about trying the yummy chicken shepherd's pies from Shepherd's Pie Singapore. Back them, they only had beef and chicken shepherd's pies available on their menu and now I'm happy to find out that they've expanded their menu (mac 'n' cheese, pasta, lasagna, burgers)!
Not only that, but they're also rated as one of the best 5 pie delivery in Singapore by BestInSingapore

And to comfortably feed 5 adults for lunch (although I have to say my mum's appetite is more like a bird), I got a medium lasagna and a massive mac 'n' cheese shepherd's pie!
First up, this time round the delivery was actually delayed by 45 minutes and the food just mere lukewarm. But it's probably due to the crazy downpour happening right at the hour of my stipulated delivery time; so can't blame them either. It's more of my lack of luck, I reckon.

Why choose between the creamy goodness of cheese and the spicy kick of black pepper, when you can have both with our new Mac ‘n’ Cheese Black Pepper Chicken Shepherd’s Pie! Delicious Chicken Mac n Cheese with a generous serving of cheese and our special Black Pepper gravy. If you’re craving for some Mac n Cheese with Black Pepper Chicken, you can’t go wrong with this!

As compared to their standard Shepherd's Pie (which has a layer of baked mashed potatoes), the Mac 'n' Cheese Shepherd's Pie comes with a top layer of Mac 'n' Cheese (duh?!) instead. However, as mentioned earlier, the food came merely lukewarm, hence the cheese has considerably harden up when we tucked into the food, which was definitely a shame! And they're actually also rather generous with the cheese, so we really had some slicing work to do with a sharp knife to cut up the solidified melted cheese.

The harden mac 'n' cheese aside, the black pepper chicken filling was so good! Instead of minced chicken they've previously used in the standard Shepherd's pies, this time round it was big chunks of well flavoured chicken meat! Love the savoury and subtle spicy kick of the black pepper, which definitely cuts through the heaviness (and would-have-been) creaminess (if the cheese was still melty) of the Mac 'n' Cheese to make you want to go for seconds.
If you're a fan of Mac 'n' Cheese, and at the same time, want something meaty to "complete your meal", then this is your jam!

DELIVERED: Pia's Homemade Lasagna (Medium)
WITH BEEF & NOT VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY

Sigh.... I was quite stumped for words this time round. My family and I (except for my HB) do not eat beef due to religion, hence I chose the vegetarian friendly version of their lasagna. But it ended up being OOS on my stipulated delivery date and they sent the BEEF VERSION without informing on the order being OOS and checking with us if it's okay to switch to the beef version.
My parents actually ate the lasagna, thinking it's 'minced mock meat' and I dare not tell them the truth after finding out that they've actually sent us beef. *facepalm*
I can only say, the ignorant is not guilty. :(

BestInSingapore's Organic Fruit Delivery [Sponsored]

Fruit is nature's candy, do you agree? Fellow fruit-maniacs, let's fall in!

With the current Covid19 pandemic going on, most of us are not only trying to stay home as much as possible (eg. less grocery shopping at the market), but the food (or perhaps, just certain fruits?) supplies at the market also seems to have taken a dip (or maybe it's just me... T.T). Many times, I've ventured out of home and to the market with the plans of buying some of my favourite fruits for my mid-day snacking, but had to return home either disappointingly empty-handed or with some other random fruits instead.

And so it got me thinking, how nice would it be if I were able to know which fruits are available for sale before I head out to the market. And it turns out, I can!
Thanks to Best In Singapore, I realised that we do have fruits delivery (my apologies for being like a frog in the well) and managed to try out Fruit Delivery Singapore, which is rated as one of the 10 best fruits delivery in Singapore

With over 80 types of fruits available, Fruits Delivery Singapore sources their organically farmed fruits from all over the world and parts of Southeast Asia, including regions of Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan and Japan. As all their fruit supplies are grown by organic farming, there's no worries of ingesting traces of pesticides and other pesticides containing chemicals along with the fruits.
At Fruit Delivery Singapore, overnight storage is not allowed, so any leftover unsold stock are disposed off by the end of the day. Their experienced packers are also trained to filter out fruits that don't qualify their strict quality protocol, so we can be assured that we will be getting the best quality fruits every time we make an order. And with 8 locations islandwide, we can easily enjoy our fresh fruits delivered right to our doorsteps in matters of only 2 hours (with free delivery for over $60 purchase)!

And here's a selection of fruits I've decided to get for the family! Other than the entire family's usual favourite (that is not apples and oranges) guava, I've also carted mum's favourite pomelo, dad's favourite jackfruit, Dinosaur Grenade and Custard Apple. The two type of fruits I've heard of, and always wanted to try!

Custard Apple - $12.90 for 2 pcs

Well, this was rather disappointing. But it's not you, custard apple, it's me.
Just looking at how it looks, I'm totally expecting it to taste similar to soursop (they look so similar, don't they?). But instead of a refreshing tangy taste with a smooth and silky texture, I was greeted with an overwhelming sweetness and a slightly grainy and crisp texture.
I'm kinda weird, but I do not like sweet fruits. So, sorry custard apple, you're not my cuppa tea.

USA Dinosaur Grenade - $11 for 3 pcs

I've long heard my grandma mentioning about these dinosaur grenade (or dinosaur egg) and I so wished to try, but never seem to be able to find them anywhere.
And now finally, I found you!

And then I realised, they're actually pluots, and probably got the impressive name due to their enormous size compared to other pluots. Extremely juicy and fleshy, with a refreshing sweet and tangy taste that's typical to pluots, these are so good! It's super satisfying to be able to take a huge bite out of the pluot without biting onto the pit (because they're so small in comparison).

It seems like Fruits Delivery has also launched some fruit basket gift sets so be sure to check them out!

BestInSingapore's Acai Bowl Delivery [Sponsored]

In recent years, the Acai berry has been one of the hottest trend in the #healthyeating culture, touted as one of the superfoods that is packed with tons of benefits. And even though they're called berries, the acai berries grows on a tree and contain pits like apricots and olives, making them a drupe.

And the main reason why these berries-in-disguise drupes have joined the superfoods' team is due to their impressive list of health benefits that includes:
- Nutrient dense
- Loaded with antioxidants
- May improve cholesterol levels
- May have an anti-cancer effect
- Could boost brain functions

So I'm super elated when Best In Singapore sent over some of these delicious healthy treats from The Acai Lab, which was listed as one of the Best 7 Acai Bowl available for delivery in Singapore.

Other than offering islandwide delivery in 60 minutes, and using only organic and non-GMO fresh fruits in their acai bowls; what sets The Acai Lab apart from the others is their special PurpleBlend Acai base, which was created with the vision of combining great taste, nutrition and aesthetics into one. Pure Acai puree was combined with various purple superfoods, along with bananas and almond milk to create a rich purple coloured creamy base that is used in every single one of their acai bowls, which supposedly boost immunity, improves brain and gut health, and also improves skin complexion.
That's just what I need in a bowl of healthy treat!

So let's see what I've chosen for my greedy self to feast upon!

Featuring their signature acai base, along with 10 most popular toppings (granola, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, kiwis, raisins, pumpkin seeds, coconut flakes, cranberries, chia seeds), givine you the perfect mouthful all in one bite!

Even though there's already so much topping given in the standard serving, I still very greedily added on some mangoes and nutella, YUM!
But in the end, because this signature bowl is really packed with A LOT of ingredients, I ended up using the nutella for the other bowl (Berry Berries) instead. This is definitely the go-to if you're undecided on which bowl to go for; for this has literally everything. An order of the large bowl can easily make it a hearty meal for you than just a healthy snack.

Berry Berries - $10.10 (med) / $15.20 (lrg)
Loaded with all the antioxidants you need (granola, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, raisins, almonds), topped on their special Mango-Acai blend for a "berry-special" time!

Being a huge berry fan (strawberries, blueberries, raspberry, blackberries), I had to order this when I saw this. And of course, you can't have too much strawberries; hence the extra order of more strawberries for my Berry Berries bowl. HAH!
The addition of mango to the acai base not only added a more subtle sweetness, but also gave the base a slightly less appealing, muddy brown colour.
Initially I thought it was the nutella, and then I realised it wasn't.
The berries aren't tart enough for my liking (and both the blueberries & strawberries are disappointingly neither tart nor sweet), not something that The Acai Lab can do anything about it though; but the generous amount of granola and almond flakes added a nice crunch to the overall mouth-feel and also a great nutty flavour.

Nutty Nature - $8.90 (med) / $12.90 (lrg)
A mix of dried fruits, pumpkin seeds, mixed nuts as well as kiwis, bananas and blueberries on their signature acai base. This bowl is well-loved by many for having just the right amount of sweet and sour while still being just as refreshing, chilled and tasty like other bowls.

If you're a huge fans of nuts and prefer having more crunchy "texture" in your acai bowl, this is your jam! The HB had this whole bowl to himself and quite liked it (although he prefers the Signature Acai Bowl more).

BestInSingapore's PizzaDelivery [Sponsored]

Pizzas, anyone?
Been craving for pizza during cheatday for a while; and it seems like Best In Singapore has heard my cheatday wish! Thanks to them, I was able to try out Pizza Delivery Singapore, which was rated the 13 Best Pizza Deliveries in Singapore

True to its name, Pizza Delivery focuses primarily on online delivery of the pizza experience, striving to provide us an authentic Italian experience with just a click away at our fingertips. An upscale fast-casual concept that serves up artisan-style Neapolitan pizzas and pasta made-on-demand, ready in minutes and delivered to our doorstep all under 1 hour! Neapolitan pizza, also known as pizza Napoletana, is a type of pizza that originated in Naples, Italy. This style of pizza is prepared with simple and fresh ingredients, with a very thin and airy crust at the base

Using air-flown Italian ingredients, coupled with their signature pizza sauce that's simmered for 8 hours and pizza dough that's fermented for 72 hours, the pizzas at Pizza Delivery are made on demand - right on the spot with each incoming order, unlike the usual mass-produced pizzerias, and fired up in their custom-made Italian stone oven replica. The ceramic material of a pizza stone is able to hold heat evenly, which absorbs moisture of the dough as it bakes, hence giving a crispier crust and a unique smoky flavour that a normal kitchen oven will not be able to replicate.

At just $57.80, you'll get 2 large 12" pizza (8 slices) of your choice, along with 6 pieces of Crispy Chicken Wings & Mozzarella Sticks.

And here's the two pizza flavours I've chosen for my bundle.

Le Amatriciana Pizza - $9.90 - $35.00

The all-time Italian favourite with tangy tomato sauce, streaky bacon, sliced yellow onions, red chilli, mozzarella cheese, and garnished with fresh parsley.

You definitely cannot go wrong with a thin crust, stone oven pizza topped with streaky bacon. The bacon bits gave so much savoury flavour to the pizza, while the chopped red chilli added a nice amount of heat to complement the tangy flavour of the tomato sauce and cuts through the creamy heaviness of the mozzarella cheese.

This is the kind of pizza that do not require any added grated Parmesan cheese or chilli flakes; and you'll just reach for the 2nd, 3rd and possibly 4th piece until you're stuffed.

The list of toppings definitely sounded very basic, but sometimes it's the most basic ingredients, when executed perfectly in a dish, which blows you away.

Chicken Alfredo Pizza - $12.90 - $39.00

Take a bite into the ultimate chunky yet tender pieces of chicken breast with fresh cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, capsicum peppers, briny olives and mozzarella cheese in Alfredo cream sauce.

Well, I'm always pro-tomato (over cream based sauces), so perhaps my rating here will be a little biased. I decided to go with this pizza instead of the safest choice of Hawaiian (pineapples belong on pizza, don't argue with me about that!) because an Alfredo pizza sounds pretty new and unique to me. But unfortunately, it turns out that this pizza only wow-ed me with its novelty.

I'll definitely prefer the Le Amatriciana over this. Probably due to the choice of using chicken breast, the meat was a tad dry and tough. The combination of mozzarella cheese with Alfredo cream sauce also lacks the dimension that would have been easily accomplished with a tangy tomato sauce. Overall the taste profile of this pizza is rather flat, but I can totally see a cream-based sauce fan loving this pizza instead.

Mozzarella Cheese Stick (6 pcs) - $11.90

100% Mozzarella sticks battered with golden breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese.

As the food were merely lukewarm when delivered, you can no longer create a cheese-pull with the cheese sticks. But if you really desire to have one, I suppose a few minutes of reheating in the airfryer should do the trick?

I totally appreciate that they've added Parmesan cheese to the breadcrumbs coating, which added tons of cheesy flavour to the cheese sticks. Well, we all know Parmesan is the MSG among cheeses, right? The grated Parmesan added so much flavour to the cheese sticks, that I could eat them without the marinara dipping sauce. And although lukewarm and lacking in the cheese-pull effect, the cheese was still chewy and had a great bite, similar to a QQ (bouncy) fishcake.

Crispy Chicken Wings (6 pcs) - $10.90 (was $14.90)

Our house specialty - Juicy, tender and crispy wings fried to perfection!

Love how these battered wings are still crispy despite being lukewarm! While the outside remains crisp and crunchy, the flesh was still tender and juicy. Although the chicken wings themselves weren't exceptionally flavourful, the mayo dipping sauce complemented the subtle flavour of the marinate seasoning really well.

Carbonara Spaghetti - $16.90

Silky white cream sauce accompanied with streaky bacon slices, white wine, garlic, freshly ground pepper and grated Parmesan.
*also available in Linguine

For just $16.90, you'll get A LOT of pasta and bacon bits. Both the HB and I are BIG EATERS, and as we both place our focus on finishing the pasta first, we ended up only finishing 6 of the total 16 slices of pizza, and left half of the chicken wings and cheese sticks untouched.

Taste wise, once again you cannot go wrong with streaky bacon in.... anything. It's amazing how these small pieces of meat can add so much savoury goodness to any dish. However, I'm not sure if it's due to the time taken for delivery, but this was the driest carbonara pasta I've ever eaten. No wait, scratch that. This was the driest pasta (vongole, aglio olio included) I've ever eaten. It taste perfectly fine though, just way too dry.

Another aspect of Pizza Delivery that I really appreciate, is how they not only tag a "best consumed by" time on every packaged order, but also clear stated the time the dish was ready to eat.

Pizza Delivery offers free islandwide delivery with purchases over $60. For a limited time only, enjoy a 1 for 1 promotion deal for all medium and large pizzas.
