Getting cakes at your doorsteps in 1 hour with Cake Delivery Singapore

They say money can't buy happiness; but we can buy cakes and that's kind of the same thing. Happiness is a piece of cake, literally.

And look, I've got TEN pieces of cakes, delivered right to my doorsteps on a rainy day, all thanks to Cake Delivery Singapore!

Every baker from Cake Delivery Singapore has gourmet baking experience of more than a decade, having worked at high end bakeries and hotels, and most of them educated at some of the top culinary institutes in Europe.

Unlike your average brick and motar cake shop, Cake Delivery Singapore not only has a full refund (or re-delivery)1-hour delivery promise, but also offers after hours delivery from 10pm to 6am for those planning a surprise midnight birthday party!

Not only do they offer an impressive selection of cakes and sweet treats, you can also expect to find healthier choices desserts such as reduced sugar or vegetarian brownies, vegan eggless chocolate cakes and keto carrot cakes! There's also local flavours such as Mao Shan Wang, Ondeh Ondeh, and Orh Nee Yam cakes

And here's what I've got.
A 1.5 kg cake made up of 10 individual slices of cake, with 8 different flavours to choose from (subjected to availability): New York Cheesecake, Burnt Cheesecake, Oreo Cheesecake, Strawberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Truffle Cake, Biscoff Cheesecake, Blueberry Cheesecake, Red Velvet Cake.

Yup, definitely sounds like the perfect choice for a cheesecake lover.
There were only 4 flavours available for my BYOC, so I simply went for 2 slices of each flavour and added on 1 extra slice for the Chocolate Truffle Cake and Biscoff Cheesecake.
I mean, chocolate truffle and biscoff, who doesn't adore them?!

And can you guess the flavour of the 1st slice I went for?

Yup, Chocolate Truffle Cake, I choose you!

Combining the best of both worlds, the Chocolate Truffle Cake has a rich, oozy chocolate ganache centre that's surrounded by fluffy, moist sponge cake and coated with cocoa powder to showcase the roasted flavour of their premium cocoa beans.

As with most other cakes (chocolate, especially), always remember to leave it standing on the counter for a good 15 to 20 minutes for the chilled cake (if you keep it in the fridge) to de-chill before eating. And, knowing that melty chocolate taste even richer, I left mine to considerably soften up for over 30 minutes before eating it and IT WAS SO GOOD! Truly decadence in every bite! Even though it's not overly sweet, as the chocolate flavour is strong, it did get a little cloying for me towards the last few bites of the slice, even though I'm a chocolate fanatic.

No prize for guessing the 2nd flavour I chose to try. Welcome to my tummy, Biscoff Cheesecake!

Crunchy Biscoff biscuit crumbs and luxurious creamy cheesecake, the perfect combination! The unique spiced caramel notes of the Biscoff cookies cut through the richness of the cream cheese, providing a fragrant, delicious mouthful. The hints of cinnamon and brown sugar are sure to make your mouth water!

I've made my own biscoff cheesecakes before, but definitely nowhere comparable to this decadent masterpiece. Rich, creamy and dense cheesecake that's both FILLED and TOPPED generously with crushed biscoff biscuits to give you the addictive caramalised flavour in every bite. I meant to share a slice with the HB, but somehow I just went on auto-pilot mode and finished up the entire slice of cake before I knew it. HAHA!

And then, it's Burnt Cheesecake!

With a perfectly charred exterior to add a smokey depth to its flavour, and an oozy melty centire, this is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The crispy, slightly bitter burnt ends cut through the cheesiness and enhance its flavour.

If you're typically not a fan of cheesecake as you find them too cloying, give the burnt cheesecake a try! The whole "burning" process not only added a nice caramelised flavour to the cheesecake, but also gave it a slight hint of the bitter charred flavour that cuts through the cloying heaviness of the cheesecake.

Never a fan of Red Velvet, and it wasn't any different for this one.

Fluffy and moist with just a hint of bittersweet cocoa powder, and frosted with rich savoury-sweet cream cheese, this is one addictive dessert.

Ate a small bite (fork down the very tip of the slice) and left the rest to the HB, who loves Red Velvet to bits. Sorry, Red Velvet, it's not you it's me. I reckon it's the cream cheese frosting that totally puts me off, every single time.
Even my parents, who knows nuts about cakes, commented that the Red Velvet is good after they shared a slice.

Mia Bakes: Lemon Blueberry Loaf Cake

Seeing that the best before date on my lemon curd is nearing, I decided to do another bake with it in order to finish the remaining few tablespoons of it (once and for all). But seeing how much my family end up loving this extremely light and yummy loaf cake, I might just need to buy more lemon curd instead. HAHA! >.<||

This is going to be a super easy, one bowl recipe that takes less than 10 minutes to whip up and another 20 to 25 minutes to bake. So let's get over with the ingredients so we can get started!

For 1 (8 x 4 inch) loaf (10 servings), we'll need:

140g all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
80g castor sugar
(I replaced 60g of it with baking stevia)
60g unsalted butter, soften at room temperature
50g greek yogurt
(I used low-fat)
2 eggs
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
(may add another tbsp if you'll prefer more lemon flavour)
2 tbsp lemon curd
(for swirling, may use more)
80g fresh blueberries
(you may use dried blueberries too)

First up, add your soften butter and sugar into a clean large bowl and beat it with a whisk until it turns pale and fluffy. Then, beat in the greek yogurt before beating in the eggs, one at a time, until well combined. Add in the lemon juice and give it another whisk until combined, before adding in all your dry ingredients (except for the blueberries) and folding until you're left with just a few pockets of flour before adding in the blueberries and giving everything a few more folding until just combined.
The batter is going to be pretty thick so the blueberries shouldn't be sinking too much, but if you're worried (and using dried blueberries/fruits), you may stir in a tablespoon or so of flour (from the 140g) into the dried fruit before folding them into your batter.

Once your batter is combined, spread half of the batter into your prepared loaf tin (sprayed down with cooking spray and lined with baking paper) before dropping dollops of the lemon curd all around the batter. Then, pour in the remaining half of the batter and smooth out the surface before sticking a chopstick into the middle and swirling it around to mix in the lemon curd. My 2 tbsps of lemon curd didn't show up much in the cake, so I'll suggest that you use more if you're a fan of a more citrus-lemony flavour.

Lastly, give your loaf tin a few taps on the counter to remove any air bubbles in your batter and send it into your oven that's pre-heated to 175 degree Celsius to bake for around 20 to 25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Mine baked for 22 minutes.

With the addition of greek yogurt, the cake turn out extremely tender, fluffy and moist. Together with fresh lemon juice and blueberries, gave the cake a citrus touch and made the taste lighter and refreshing.

But perhaps I could have used a smaller loaf tin to get a taller (and skinnier) looking cake. Heh!

Mia's Review: Velvet Confectionery [Media Invite]

Over the weekend, I was really glad to be stuffed with nothing else but cakes, along with my blogger-buddies, JanelOYHZ and Andrea over at Velvet Confectionery.

Located at Watermark Condominium, near Kith Cafe, it's a pretty simple looking, 'no gimmicks' kind of bakery cafe that can give you a river view with pretty simple alfresco seatings.

But I do agree that the nearby construction works and buildings are a big distraction to a potentially awesome chillax weekend, sipping a cup of coffee 'by the river'.

With minimal decorations to the cafe, patrons are directly shown the best of what they've got to offer upon stepping into the cafe. Their selection of cakes for the day!

But of course, they do serve pretty good coffees, tea and even some sparkling sodas to quench your thirst on a hot day.

Floral Berry & Passionfruit Sparkling Soda

It's a pity the cute straw didn't work out very well, as it kind of melted down in the drink for it's actually a layer of paper wrapped over plastic.
The icy soda was truly a saviour in the unforgivably hot weather and the taste is actually very light and with just a slight sweetness of the berries flavour and with a hint of floral.

And... here comes the cakes!

Nutella Cheesecake

This definitely has to be my favourite of the lot with it's soft, creamy texture of nutella flavoured cheesecake seated on top of a generously thick later of cookie crumbs based that tasted just like the oh-so-yummy caramalised biscuits.
Plus, there's even a Ferrero Rocher to up the omph-factor. Can you imagine that?

Carrot Cake

One of their best sellers, this carrot cake is truly of a monstrous serving size! Not a fan of carrot cakes at all, because I believe they're savoury (Andrea did mentioned she has tried a carrot cake elsewhere that's more savoury than sweet too), this carrot cake did kind of surprised me for they're pretty sweet! Stuffed full of carrot bits, raisins and chopped walnut, this will indeed be a popular choice for those who love a sweet carrot cake!

Red Velvet Brownie

A layer of densely packed, moist and slightly chewy brownie with an equally thick cream cheese layer with beautiful red velvet swirls that's chocolatey and yet not overly sweet. A good choice for those cream cheese and red velvet lovers out there.

Lemon Olive Oil Yoghurt Loaf

Baked without any butter, but substituted with olive oil and yoghurt, this is indeed their more diet-friendly choice for those ladies who's keeping a tight watch on their waistline and yet is losing a battle against their sweets-craving. The omission of butter has given this cake loaf a pretty dense and moist-crumbly texture while it's taste is very lemony, light and not too sweet.

And that's not all, for we also have some cute cupcakes!

Devilish Chocolate Cupcake

I had this with a cup of coffee (they have pretty good coffee too) the previous time I visited and it was a true comfort to my pretty bad (and rushed) day at work earlier. I mean, chocolate and coffee, how can this combination not lift up your mood, huh?

The cake can be pretty dense when it's just served straight out of the fridge, so do leave it sitting around for a while before digging in. The chocolate cake is actually pretty light in taste by itself but makes a good match when paired up with the rich chocolatey frosting.

 Blue Velvet Cupcake

This is just like a red velvet cupcake, made blue. Just like the chocolate cupcake, the cake itself taste really light while the cream cheese frosting packed in all the sweetness you'll need for a cupcake.
Well, kind of sick of looking at a red velvet cake, why not have them blue instead?

And just a behind the scene shot....

Oyhz came without the mother of my Samsung NX Mini (her big, pink samsung camera) and had to use her trusted iPhone to snap pictures instead.

For the month of July, Velvet Confectionery will be giving a promotion for all my lovely readers out there. All you have to do is to follow them on Instagram (@velvetconfectionery) and quote "MollyMia" to enjoy your choice of cake with a cup of hot coffee (latte or cappuccino) or hot tea for just $10 on weekdays.

Velvet Confectionery is located at 7 Rodyk Street, #01-30 Watermark @ Robertson Quay

Mia's Review: Nine Thirty by Awfully Chocolate

A while back, I posted up a pretty short review of the chocolate cupcake from Nine Thirty by Awfully Chocolate and since that visit, I've revisited their branch at Greenwich V a handful of times and tried out a some other goodies.

Butterscotch Milk (Hot) - about $7

I first tried this when D told me that it has got some good reviews. I got the hot one while she took the iced version. My advice is, take the hot one. The iced one was made by pouring the hot concoction over a cup full of ice, so it'll be served to you horribly diluted.
As for my hot butterscotch milk, it was definitely yummy. The rich and smooth milk was deliciously sweetened with a strong dash of butterscotch flavour, topped with chocolate powder and a melting marshmallow.

White Chocolate Butterscotch Block - $7.90 per 100g

A thick block of creamy, rich and sweet white chocolate moist cake of mousse-like texture with a swirl of chocolate sponge cake centre and topped with a thick layer of butterscotch cream on top.
This has to be the richest, sweetest, most sinful (white) chocolate cake you can ever find.
Not recommended for individual consumption, unless you can get the staff to sell you a 50g piece.

Flourless Chocolate Cake - $6.90

Other than their original chocolate cake and the chocolate cupcake I've reviewed in my previous post (linked above), this has to be the other cake they have that is true to their shop name, Awfully Chocolate. Being flourless, the cake naturally will be more moist, sticky, gooey and richer in taste. It's really like a fudgey brownie that's done over the top.

Mia's Review: Cake Spade

credits to Cake Spade

Yes, I know I'm supposed to be on a eat healthy diet (with the B12+Folate deficiency anemia going on) but I cannot do without cakes! T.T
I first stumbled onto Cake Spade after a google search of "cake cafes near tanjong pagar" due to a pretty sudden cake craving while waiting for T at the mrt station. And subsequently, I returned with A recently for a quick cake fix.

Located around Orchid Hotel, I have to be honest to say that Cake Spade is a cafe so small and humble looking, with just 6 seatings in the interior and a couple more humbly plain looking tables and chairs laid out on the outside, that you probably will just walk right past it without a second look or the slightly recognition that that's a friggin awesome cake cafe right there.

Chinese Apple Pomegranate Green Tea

I first saw this selling at Cedele and instantly got attracted to the pretty bottles! But due to the price (it was about $4.50 or so), I didn't want to buy it then for I tend to spend less on a pick-and-go as compared to a cafe-hopping trip. So yup, tried it at Cake Spade instead. :)
But frankly speaking, judging from the fact that you probably will not be keeping the bottle after consuming the beverage, the price tag does not justify the purchase at all.

Nutella Fudge Crumble - $4.50

A layer of fudge and nutella sandwiched between a buttery short crust pastry and a layer of crumbs! Sounds yummy, eh?

And to show how runny the fudge-nutella layer is.

First bite, heavenly! The bottom crust tasted like an exceptionally short (buttery and crumbly) shortbread and the top layer of crumbs added just the right amount of crunchiness oomph up the overall texture of this decadent treat!
But as you slowly polish the entire bar off the plate, things might get a little difficult as the taste is way too rich, both the chocolate-nutty richness of the filling and the buttery fragrance of the bottom and top layers just made it too jerlat (strong, overpowering) for me.
Best to visit with a friend (or two) and share a few other choices of goodies together so as to not experience a sweet-richness overkill.

Oreo Cookie Brownie - $3.20

Come on, oreo cookies, brownie, and a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. What more can you ask for?
The brownie was rich, chocolatey and very dense. I remembered it was a little too dry and dense for my liking and the oreo cookie were somehow, too soft and soggy. Would have been a perfect match made in heaven, but oh well, it somehow fell short of my expectation, which I have to admit that I might have unknowingly set them a little too high?

Red Velvet Cake - $5.90

Of course, with T around how can we not have red velvet cake? Look at the moist layer of red sponge cake and pretty swirls of cream cheese icing on top!
But I didn't really try out the taste, for I'm really not a fan of red velvet (mostly due to the cream cheese icing).

And on my 2nd visit with A, I got myself a cup of Iced Latte due to the hot weather.
The coffee was just so-so, and quickly got washed down when the ice started to melt.

Chocolate Blackout Cake - $5.90

A classic chocolate cake with moist chocolate sponge cake and iced with rich and smooth chocolate ganache.
This cake is truly decadent and is a must try for all chocolate-addicts out there. The sponge layer is (obviously) moist and soft, and the ganache velvety smooth and rich. But once again, the taste can be pretty jerlat even for a chocolate-lover like me, so sharing with fellow chocoholic friends is highly recommended.

Lastly, Strawberry Tofu Cheesecake - $5.90

Yeah of course, how can we miss out their signature cake?
And with just one bite, both A and I nodded our heads and said, "Yummy!" Worthy of the signature tag indeed! The cheesecake was truly of an almost tofu-like consistency, super smooth and finely textured, which literally melts away in your mouth. Topped with quite a generous chunk of fresh strawberries encased in sweetened jelly, this is a remarkably light and refreshing cheesecake. A pleasant surprise indeed, for I've always feel that cheesecakes are the most jerlat cake of all.

Mia's Review: The Cat Cafe @ Bugis Village

If you didn't know, I've reviewed on the first cat cafe in singapore (Neko No Niwa, located at boat quay) a while back HERE. And after knowing that the 2nd cat cafe has officially opened, I was like, "OMG, I have to go!"
Well, the 3rd is opening real soon and 4th opening coming August... So I reckon I will have lots of meow-hopping to do real soon.

But first, let's get on with The Cat Cafe, shall we?

Located conveniently at Bugis Village, above Burger King (you turn left when facing BK and go up to the 3rd floor at the staircase), I'll say this cafe has won the pioneer in terms of location from an Eastie's POV. Significantly less walking from the MRT station too, yay!

T was totally awed by the coffee machine when he first stepped into the cafe. He literally went, "Whoa, chio!" at the machine and the lady boss was actually nice enough to entertain him. =.="

Fees for The Cat Cafe is just a one-time entrance fee of $15, one soft drink included. You may top up for coffee or other hot drinks and get some yummy pastry to eat while inside the cats' area.

Before entering the cats' section, we're given a laminated piece of paper stating the cafe's rules with regards to handling of cats to read through, and then handed over to the "cat-keeper" (staff stationed inside the cats' area), who asked us to remove our shoes and either change into their rubber slippers or we may choose to go barefoot. Lastly, we had to sanitize our hands with the hand sanitizer provided and viola, we're good to go!

We were given a low table by the window and our food and drinks were served after a short while.

T got his usual Latte while I went for the Caramel Carameow Latte.
Their coffee isn't fantastic, but it's really not bad. Pretty strong coffee taste with a generous amount of caramel added to give it a rich sweetness.

And we also got their Salted Caramel Chocolate Chiffon cake to share, which was highly recommended by the boss herself. I actually wasn't hungry at all (pretty full in fact). But hearing not just chocolate, but also salted caramel, and I was like, "Okay, that too!"

The lady boss's recommendation didn't disappoint us. This is really good! The chiffon cake is soft, fluffy and a little moist, packed with chocolate fragrance and a slight hint of the chocolatey sweetness. The chocolate taste actually isn't rich or sweet at all, but that's the characteristic of such flavoured chiffon cakes. As for the salted caramel cream frosting, it was yummy~! I'm a total sucker for salted caramel AND chocolate, and this cake totally nailed it. The glob of Dulce de Leche at the top sprinkled with some coarse sea salt just perfected it all.

Didn't manage to take an overall picture of the cafe as it was full house when we visited on a Saturday evening (waited 1 hour on waiting list). But I took these pictures of the windows upon noticing the cute glass decoration of their cafe mascot, the fat ginger kitty. Heeheehee!

The cafe is also filled with low to high wall shelves and "overhead bridges" for tired/annoyed cats to escape from the human clutches.

And now, let's introduce the kitties, shall we?

First kitty we met is this 'ginger skinny one', which I didn't find out her name (if you're interested you can check out the The Cat Cafe), who was hogging T's seat.

Level of seat-hogging: Ultimatium.
Apart from being very comfortably seated facing T's crotch for a good 30 minutes, she also was very interested in sniffing M's butt (shared by Oyhz) when they were there a few days after my visit. HAHAHA!

At one point she was even licking T's hand merrily.

The second kitty we met was this really sleepy kitty, who jumped onto the kitty bed behind my seat and just slept away until their feeding time at around 7pm.

And there's also this 'greedy kitty', who not only came by T's bag for a good sniffing multiple times, eyed the cake on our table hungrily, and eventually managed to snatch a bite of some half eaten cake off the other patrons' table. And that's her punishment for her greediness, for like.... 5 minutes?

I love how Silver looks like when she's napping....

And how she grooms herself after feeding time! Aww....

Here's Tuxedo, the biggest of the 14 resident cats at The Cat Cafe.

Here's Jimmy AKA Garfield, Tuxedo's buddy. I found them napping together, cuddled up at one corner of the cafe when I first arrived. Aww...
And Jimmy doesn't really enjoy getting pets. He was swiping away the girl's hand in the first picture.

Elly, with the totally "HUH?" look on her face. Hahaha! She loves to prance around on the railing while we're there, hardly touching down on solid grounds.

Another sleepy cat, who napped on this 'overhead bridge' until feeding time...

Another cat, whose name I don't know. She (I assume) has striking blue eyes, so pretty! Wave a cat toy at her and she'll start playing!

And at about 6:30pm, we suddenly realised that all the cats are 'gone'. Turns out they've all gathered around the feeding area to wait for food!

The mass meowing of these hungry cats when the staff came in with stacks of cat food was so cute. And during feeding time, this particular greedy black cat caught my attention. She gobbled down her food at amazing speed (first to finish) and stealthily went on to steal bites from other slower-eaters.

Immediately after feeding, we found this cutie chillaxing in the cat house. Such a cute face!

Jimmy then got into a fight with another cat over the roller-tunnel.

And soon after feeding time, their snack-feeding time starts! Do note that the cafe management limits the amount of snacks sold, so if you really wish to feed the cats, go earlier in the day (when I went at 5pm the day snacks were already sold out) or in the evening right after their feeding time at 6 plus 7pm.

The snacks is actually a small bowl of wet cat food that resembles our canned tuna. Even overheard a male patron mumbling, "Wah, I really feel like finding 2 pieces of bread to kiap these..."
Do take note that the cats might get a little too excited (claws out, as seen on bottom left... THAT greedy cat!) and will fight over the snacks. The two female patrons, whom I really have insufficient photoshop skills to crop out (sorry!), were both scratched by the cats while they fought for the spoons.
So, take note yeah?

And lastly, do make sure you keep your shoes properly. You'll never know which cat has a ribbon fetish.

And now, my thoughts on this 2nd cat cafe in Singapore. Needless to say, they win the pioneer hands down for me. Not just in terms of pricing and location, but the service as well. Hey, this is still a cafe business alright? There's been some harsh criticism by some patrons (actually I don't even know if they're really patrons in the first place), crying cat abuse because the cafe management is too slack on correcting misbehaviours in patrons, especially of young kids.

True enough, when I was there on a Saturday evening, there was an alarmingly large number (compared to the other cat cafe, which I also visited on a weekend, around the same timing) of children. Rowdy children, who were clearly mishandling the cats, terrorising them. I vividly remember this young boy, I reckon to be in lower primary school, who was ruffling Elly's back really roughly while she's perched on the railing.
Once, Elly twisted and stared at his hand.
Twice, Elly once again twisted and the boss told him to stop it.
Yet, he went for the third time.
I was like... boy, do you understand simple English?
Elly raised a paw and the boss quickly reached out her hand and grabbed the boy's hand and put it away, reminding him a 2nd time to stop the misbehaviour.
And the boy's mother turned and stared at the boss and she had to quickly explain, apologetically, that she had to do it because the cat will smack the boy this time round.
Like, WHAT?
Hello, parents... You don't want to (too lazy to?) discipline your kids and yet doesn't like others to do it for you. So what you want?

Now back to the criticisms. Some even compared them to the pioneer, and praised the latter for doing a good job in protecting the cats' welfare, and even went on to saything things like, 'if you cannot get your priorities right, don't try to make money off animals.'
Okay, I suppose this person is against all zoos in the world as well?

I personally don't go very well with the cafe's insistence on allowing kids of 6 years old and above to enter, with the idea of cultivating the love towards cats in children. I feel that that's the sole responsibility of parents and it's really too idealistic on the cafe management's part to want to achieve something so big.
But then again, I respect their big-heartedness and I agree that what's now is to find the balance between caring for the cats' welfare and being customer-oriented. They're not a cat rescue centre. They're a cafe with 14 cats. They're effectively a cafe, still a business, that relies on paying customers to keep going.
And to be very honest, The Cat Cafe is obviously not there yet, but their efforts to make it happen is still worth our warm support.

Till then,
Mia
